Turtles/Paper Towns 2

Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"?  Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future?  Why or why not?

  1. I don't believe in 100 years this will be considered a classic only because this book is very slow. There is a point to the story and people may still read it later on, but not in English classes when reading classics. This book is very slow in the beginning and a lot of students would not enjoy that from my experiences.

    1. I agree it is definitely slow and mostly boring and I feel like a true classic novel usually should keep students intrigued.

    2. I think this book does have some potential to be a classic, but I agree that it might be boring for some students who don't enjoy reading to read.

  2. I feel like it possibly could be considered a classic just because it does have a good lesson. It shows the struggles of mental health and how people have to learn to live with it. This book definitely changed my view of mental illnesses in general. It made me realize how there really is nothing you can do about it and that people can struggle without anyone being able to see or understand.

    1. It also changed my veiw on mental health because Aza did the thumb thing and it showed me that some people deal with it in different ways

    2. I definitely agree! I think this book was great at showing a different perspective and could possibly be a classic just for how it is eye-opening to the realities of mental illnesses

  3. I do not believe this will be considered a classic in 100 years. I feel students like me would continuously get bored of it and not enjoy it. A boring book does not make a good classic to me. Some people may still read this book but I do not think it will be regularly.

    1. I agree with this because, our whole group did not like this book or most of it. So, if this book would come a classic then a lot of people would be bored

  4. I think that it could be a classic, only because of the mental health part of it. Because it can show that not everyone is okay at all times, and you dont know what people go through. But the book was so boring otherwise, that it would not be a classic because not very many people would enjoy it.

  5. I think this book could potentially become a classic. Mental Health is a big this in todays world and I think that in 100 years it will still be a topic discussed and looked back on. Aza struggled with mental health throughout the book and it shows how drastically it effects someone's life. I think this book would be a good way to learn about it. Other then that, I don't know if this book could be a classic because I personally thought it was tough to get through and boring at times.

  6. I think this book has the potential to be a classic book in the future. It covers problems that we in the 2000s are living through like mental health and is something future generations might look into in their high school English classes like our generation with "Of Mice and Men" which covered issues of the 1900s. This book could be a good way to reflect on the issues that were facing and tell future people about the 2000s.

  7. I do not think this will be a classic because lots of people I know don't like stories that end with a dull ending and its a slow read but it might be something people would come across and might want to try it out. so no I don't think this will stand somewhere at the top for English classes

  8. I think this novel could possibly be a classic in the future. It goes over what teens mental health is like and how they cope with it. I also feel that this book is a little slow, it might be boring for some people and they wouldn't see this as a classic book. It took me awhile to figure out what was happening because it is also sort of confusing at the start. But overall i think this book could be considered for a classic.

  9. It's possible. It isn't as currently popular as Fault in Our Stars, but it has the chance to grow and become widely loved. Its method of describing and addressing mental health issues is novel (to me at least) and it does a very good job of showing Aza's struggles through the writing. The odds of it ending up in an English class are very low however, with the book mentioning inappropriate topics.

  10. I don't think this book will be a classic in 100 years. The book is very slow and changes subjects too much. I really struggled with following the book. I was very confused with the book and got very bored with it so I don't really see this book being a classic.

  11. I think Turtles all the way down will become a classic in 100 years just because of the important lesson it has in the book. Mental health is brought up a lot in this book, and it is a very big issue in the world right now. I have learned what it could be like in someone else's brain with this kind of illness and I now know what someone could be going through and you don't even know. I think the book was really interesting seeing what Aza all went through.

  12. The Anthropocene Reviewed was an insightful read and did a great job capturing the current state of the world around us. For this alone, I think it would make a great classic novel in 100 years. It would be a helpful tool for teachers to explain what it was like to live in this time period. Green's thoughts were very relatable, and the themes of human nature are timeless

  13. I definitely do not think Turtles all the way down will consider to be a classic just because it was boring and didnt have a very good messsage to it. I feel like it is a good young adult book or a good book for early teens but I think a more challenging read would have a better chance of making to the classics.

  14. Although the book was a little slow and not the most entertaining, I do think it could be a classic. The lesson that it gives and the point of view about mental health that we get to see could very well go somewhere. I could see teachers reading this book with a class simply because of the mental health component.

  15. I feel this book might be considered a classic. Most books that are 100 years old have usually a good message or an important one at the very least. So I feel it may not be impossible for this book to become a classic because we don't know what the standard will be in 100 years.

  16. I don't think it'll be a classic but I feel if books are still around it'll be read by some. It's kinda lacking and slow at times and all that so I feel if it does get/stay popular that far down the rode it'll be by late middle school kids and not something required to read in any classes like the outsiders or to kill a mocking bird.
